It was especially fitting that Major General C H Martin should command the 90th Division in the Army of Occupation, as he had trained its splendid reserve officers at Leon Springs. General Martin brought that remarkable organization, the 86th Division, to France, was with the 1st Army in combat, and later commanded the 92d and 90th Divisions. The photograph shows General Martin being decorated with the D S M by Brigadier General H F Hodges. July 16, 1919, at Seattle. Private Absalom Gunther, 43rd Company, 5th Marines, wounded November 10. Private Gunther suffered a gunshot wound in the right chest with resulting empyema. Photographed at the Red Cross Hospital No 2, Paris, January 11, 1919.
