Image description

The Nyala, a newly discovered antelope, combines features of both the bushbok and koodoo, boasting a unique appearance. Adult males stand about three feet four inches tall at the shoulder, with distinctive spiral horns and shaggy fur resembling a goat. Females lack horns and are smaller, with a vibrant rufous-orange coat adorned with white markings. This gregarious species inhabits the hilly regions bordering St. Lucia Bay in the Zulu country. Named Tragelaphus angasii in honor of George F. Angas, it is a rare find, with the herd near St. Lucia Bay being the only encounter documented by Europeans.
