Image description

World reknowned mountain climber Ed Viesturs stands next to a poster promoting his attempt to be the first American to climb all fourteen of the world's 8,000-meter peaks without the aid of bottled oxygen during a visit to the Mountainzone.com studios in Seattle, January 21. Viesturs, widely regarded as one of the worlds best mountaineers, gained fame when he and IMAX filmmaker David Breashears rescued several of the distressed climbers during the 1996 Everest tragedy where more than five international climbers died in a fierce Himalayan storm. Viesturs, who has climbed 12 of the 8,000-meter peaks, plans to climb Annapura this spring and Nanga Parbat in 2001. apb/Photo by Anthony P. APB/TRA
