Image description

Allen Bailey, Boeing's chief engineer for 737 jetliner safety and certification, shows the media the modifications the airplane manufacturer has developed to enhance safety of the 737 tail rudder assembly in Seattle, September 14, 2000. Stemming from two cataustrophic accidents that occurred in the 1990's involving the most widely flown commercial airplane, Boeing plans to retrofit the existing fleet of almost 4,000 737s worldwide with improved rudder controls which goes into production in 2003. There are 1,500 737s in use in the U.S. REUTERS/Anthony P. APB/ME
