Afghans take a hot bath at a street market bath house, known as haman in Kabul November 5, 2002. Under its strict interpretation of Islam, bathhouses were banned by the Taliban regime. The hardline Taliban banned music, movies and television, ordered all adult men to grow a beard long enough to be clutched in a fist, forced women not to appear in public unless with a male relative, enforcing women to be hidden behind head-to-toe burqas, and banned women from work or study.
