A massacre of racehorses. In Farmsen, near Hamburg, the fire broke out at two in the morning in a large stable that housed 35 horses. The guardians tried to dissolve the bonds of the animals; but some of them were already engulfed in flames. The others had taken the flight in all directions; but, suddenly, blinded by terror, a dozen of them returned to the burning stable and were lightningly penetrated, before the guardians they could prevent it. The poor animals have thus found the death they had already escaped. Illustration for Courier Sunday, 21 July 1929.
