Fighting or survival knife issued to Indian Paratroops, 1942 circa. 50th Indian Parachute Brigade was formed in October 1941 with one British (151st), one Indian (152nd) and one Gurkha (153rd) parachute battalion, in addition to the usual command, pathfinder, signal, artillery, sapper and medical sub-units. 154th Gurkha Parachute Battalion was added in November 1942. Indian Paratroopers from all these units carried fighting knives in a converted version of the scabbards made for the bayonets of the Short Magazine Lee Enfield (SMLE) rifle. The scabbard was held in a webbing strap that was bound to the wearer's leg.
