Bulgarian Communist propaganda card depicting volunteer workers wishing the people a happy New Year, late 1940s - early 1950s. Written on the young people's flag is the slogan “We are building!”. The abbreviation for “Happy New Year” is on the lead wagon. In the late 1940s and early 1950s the Brigadier movement was very popular with young people in Bulgaria. It was an initiative where youth and students would volunteer to be a free labour force on major building projects commissioned by the Communist Party.
