Bajidaw, King of Burma, orders his General to wrest Bengal from the British, 1823. Almost immediately after his arrival in India, in 1823, as Governor-General, Lord Amherst received a demand from Bajidaw, King of Burma, for the cession of the whole of Bengal, followed by the despatch of an army under the command of Maha Bandula, who was ordered to bring Lord Amherst bound in golden fetters to the king. These proceedings brought on the First Burmese War of 1824-1826, which resulted in the annexation of Assam, Arakan and Tenasserim to the British dominions.
