Pope Clement I (fl. 96) fourth Pope; L to R: scenes from his life showing him blessing the kneeling Theodora, wife of the Roman prefect, Sisinnius while, behind her, three Roman soldiers go in search of Clement to arrest him; on the right is the scene where the saint, banished from Rome to the Chersonese and set to work in a stone quarry, finds that the prisoners are suffering from lack of water; he sees a lamb, strikes the ground where the lamb stood and releases a stream of water; this resulted in the conversion to Christianity of many prisoners and led to the martyrdom of Saint Clement shown below; he was tied to a stone and thrown in the sea to drown in the Black Sea;
