‘THE RIVAL ACCOUCHEURS OR WHO SHALL DELIVER EUROPE’, by Isaac Cruickshank; published Fores July 1st 1800 cat:9544. William Pitt wearing the costume of a quack doctor addresses Bonaparte(not caricatured ) dressed as Consul. Behind Pitt is Dundass dressed as a zany who accompanied the quack He wears a Scottish bonnet. On the right a grotesque man- possibly Desaix fires a blunderbuss into a terrified Austrian soldier, possibly Melas. A satire on Pitt’s subsidies for Austria, Bavaria, Wurtumberg and Mainz. The dignity of Bonaparte is notable in comparison with the other figures.
