Bolivian President Jorge Quiroga jogs in the rain along the runway used by Bolivian and American anti-drug planes and helicopters at the main police base in the cocaine-producing Chapare province, May 21, 2002. Quiroga, who finishes his one-year, interim government in August, led a group of journalists to see the results of the coca-eradication program initiated by his predecessor, Hugo Banzer Suarez, who died earlier this month of cancer, and continued by his own administration. The program, financed with aid from the U.S., has achieved a reduction of illegal coca plantations in the country from 45,000 hectares in 1997, to 1,700 hectares at the present.
