After a career in London Davidson retired to the picturesque East Coast fishing village of Walberswick, where he had a studio by the river built above the high, capricious tides on stilts. He painted small oils on panels of the local girls, often unclothed, in the French 'direct' manner he had learned at the Academie Julien in Paris where he trained. This sitter seems less than sure of her situation.
