Portrait of Cardinal-Infante Ferdinand of Spain (1609-1641), Governor of the Low Countries, son of Philip III of Spain and Margaret of Austria, in grisaille, three-quarter-length, turned slightly to the right, in armour with a white lace collar, and a wide sash, wearing the Chain and Jewel of the Golden Fleece, and holding a baton. From a set of grisaille portraits by Van Dyck of artists and distinguished persons, for engravers to work from. The panels, with the exception of M.188, are all in identical English 18th Century carved and gilded Palladian frames, with tongue-and-leaf outer edge and foliate sight edge.
