Image description

Pirates occasionally seized slaving vessels from the African coast. But the pirates - even who generally killed without a qualm - took only the crew and money on board, freeing the slaves and giving them rough sailing instructions on how to man the ship and escape to safety. Original artwork for illustration on p28 of Look and Learn issue no 167 (27 March 1965). Re-used in the Valiant Book of Pirates. Lent for scanning by The Gallery of Illustration.
