The Foundation of Lima. Francisco Pizarro founded Lima on 18 January 1535, and named it Cuidad de los Reyes (the City of the Kings) in honour of the Spanish Emperor Charles V and Dona Juana, his mother. The name soon after gave place to that of Lima, a Spanish corruption of the Quichua word Rimac. Illustration for Hutchinson's History of the Nations (Hutchinson, c.1920). Note: Image has been digitally enhanced to facilitate repro.
