Lea Nikel

Israeli painter, 1918-

Born Lea Nikelsberg in the Ukraine, she emigrated to British Mandatory Palestine in 1920. From 1950 to 1961 she lived and worked in Paris. Her first solo exhibition was at the Chemerinsky Gallery in Tel Aviv, 1957, and a retrospective of her work was mounted at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art in 1995. From 1961 to 1977 she lived variously in Greenwich Village, Rome, at at the Chelsea Hotel in Manhattan. She settled in Israel after 1977.
