Born 30 April 1869. Worked at the Berlin Building Office between 1893 and 1894. From 1903 to 1916, director of the Royal Art and Craft Academy of Breslau. City architect to Dresden and professor at the City's Technical High School from 1916 to 1920. From 1920 to 1924, Poelzig directed the architectural studies at the Berlin Kunstakademie, thereafter becoming professor at the Technische Hochschule of Charlottenburg, a post he held until 1933.
