Giovanni Giordano. On August 17, 1893 in Aigues-Mortes (Aigues Mortes) a fight between French and Italian workers caused 8 to 9 deaths according to the sources among the Italians and several dozen injuries (35 to 100 according to the sources). A massacre of which all the accused, judges from 26 to 30 December, were acquired. None of the murderers will be punished. While the guilt of the 16 French indictments had been clearly established by the courts, the popular jury of the Assize Court of Angouleme, ceding to nationalist pressure, would pronounce a general acquittal. The only Italian present on the bench, Giovanni Giordano, will finally be sentenced for “clandestine work”.
