Henry Colt Arthur Hoare (1888-1917)

St George Hare (Limerick 1857 – London 1933). Oil painting on canvas, Henry Colt Arthur Hoare (1888 - 1917) by St George Hare (Limerick 1857 – London 1933), 1917-18, the tree trunk, on the left, is inscribed wih the word 'Kismet', and a commemorative cross painted against the foliage of the tree on the upper left is inscribed on the horizontal bar: C...H.C.A.HOARE / Dorset Yeomanry / 19 - 12 -17 and, at the bottom: 3033 and signed by the artist: Hare. Presumably a posthumous commemorative portrait of the son of Sir Henry Hoare, 6th Bt, who died on active service. He stands three-quarter length with his hands behind his back and wears the military uniform of the 1st Dorset Queen's Own Yeomanry with Stourhead Gardens in the background.
