A full-length portrait of a young boy, seated, in a landscape, facing, head inclined slightly to the right, gazing at the spectator, wearing a brown coat and breeches and blue silver-embroidered waistcoat, a small white frilled collar, and white stockings, with a black dog by his side on the left who is tugging at the piece of cloth which the boys holds in his left hand. Distant horizon seen on the left. Son of George Venables-Vernon, 1st Baron Vernon, and his wife the Hon. Mary Howard. He was known as the 'Hunting Lord', he enjoyed exercising his hounds on the south lawn. He inherited Sudbury in 1780. Sudbury Hall, Derbyshire
