Mameluke or shamshir sword presented to Lieutenant Charles Swanston by the Bishop of Calcutta, 1815 circa. This oriental blade with English-style engraving and quillons of Indian silver, was probably presented to Lieutenant Swanston when he was made Assistant Quarter Master General of the Survey Branch on 21 January 1815.
