He rides, he shoots, he acts in the movies -- Randy Travis must be the very model of a modern country singer. But Travis is an unabashed traditionalist, too. Not for him the watered-down, pseudo-country sounds of other acts seeking cross-over hits. "I didn't grow up listening to rock 'n roll or anything else. I grew up with [Hank Williams and Ernest Tubbs and Don Gibsons, Loretta (Lynn) and Tammy (Wynette) and Kitty Wells]," he said proudly in that distinctive North Carolina drawl. "It's important for me to stick to our roots. I think we've drifted way too far from that."
