Image description

Creator: Kenneth Hurlstone Jones A general view of Hong Kong cricket ground with pavilion to the right of the image. Far left of image is the corner of the Hong Kong Club building (completed 1897) but those in the middle and to the right have not been identified. In the foreground, walking from right to left, is an unidentified Chinese man focusing on something in his hands. In the background, two batsmen are standing near each other while others are walking around the field. To their right, which appears to be the other end of the cricket wicket, two Chinese men stand, one of which appears to have just bowled a ball to one of the batsmen. The ball can just be seen in the centre of the image. To the right, in the further distance more cricketers are standing, possibly warming up, in front of a pavillion The original negative envelope is labelled: 'H.K. Cricket ground C. Club + H.K. Club. Nov 1900'. The reverse of the accompanying contact print is labelled: 'Army Cricket Club and ground, November 1900'.
