Image description

Portrait of Albert Heinrich Steiner (born on 26 July 1905), taken in January 1957 at his workplace. Albert Heinrich Steiner founded his own architectural office in 1933. His activity as a master builder of the city of Zurich 1943-1957 was influential: he created a new urban building code and pushed the gradual transformation of the inner city into a business city while respecting the historic old town. As professor of architecture and urban planning at the ETH Zurich (1957-71), Steiner began in 1957 to draw up an overall plan for the new buildings of the ETH Hoenggerberg.
