Oil painting on canvas, Richard Boyle, 3rd Earl of Burlington (1695 – 1753), after Sir Godfrey Kneller (Lübeck 1646/9 - London 1723), late 18th or early 19th century. Three-quarter-length portrait, turned slightly to the left, gazing at the spectator, wearing a full, grey, curled wig and a crimson velvet coat, with a sheathed sword at his left side. His brown cloak is draped over his right arm, falling low across the front, to be caught by his left hand on the left hip. He wears a white stock, gathered cuffs and the Garter Star and Ribbon. His right hand indicates a view through the window, of trees, parkland and blue sky with white clouds. Inscribed 'Richard, the 3rd Earl of Burlington, the Architect' top right.
