A capriccio painting, including one of the fountains in the Piazza Navona, with Bernini's obelisk in a terraced landscape, with figures and hounds. Although German by birth, Lingelbach's parents settled in Amsterdam when he was 15, and he is always reckoned a member of the Dutch School. He spent the years between 1644-50 in Rome and an actual view of the Piazza Navona by him is in the Stadelsches Kunstinstitut in Frankfurt, although this may have been painted from memory and sketches when he was back in Amsterdam.
