Henry Moore (1898-1986). English sculptor and artist. Famous for his monumental semi-abstract bronze and stone sculptures located around the world usually as public art. He depicts mainly abstractions of the human figure, usually suggesting the female form, often mother and child or reclining figures. Has received international recognition. Turned down a knighthood but was awarded a Companion of Honour in 1955 and the Order of Merit in 1963. His wife was the Russian-Polish born Irina Radetsky.
