China will lead the world in air transport growth over the next 20 years, according to predictions by Chinese aviation officials and foreign aircraft makers hoping to sell huge numbers of new aircraft to them. China will have to add 1,474 planes to meet increasing demand for air passenger transport, expected to grow 8.6% a year over the next two decades - as well as replacing existing aircraft, according to Zheng Qiang, an official with China Aviation Industry Corp. (AVIC), China's leading aircraft manufacturer.
