An ultra-orthodox Jewish boy watches as the lid of a pot is rinsed after being dipped into a large vat of boiling water set up on a street corner in the Mea Shearim neighborhood prior to the start of the Passover holiday April 18. Passover which begins on the evening of April 19 with the "seder" dinner, is a week long holiday celebrating the exodus of the Hebrews from Egypt. It is a time when religious Jews throughly clean their homes and refrain from eating any food containing leavening such as bread. By dipping utensils in boiling water it rids them of any trace of leavening so that each peice will be clean for Passover.
