A poster for a fete to raise funds for the British Home for Incurables. The British Home for Incurables was founded in 1861 in Clapham but it soon outgrew these premises and moved to Streatham. At this time Streatham was a rural area and the fresh air was thought to be particularly good for patients. The new home was opened by the Prince and Princess of Wales in 1894 and this "gigantic" fund raising fete - which lists many well known artistes, including Dan Leno and Albert Chevalier, as members of the Committee - was held a few weeks later at the beginning of July
