A simple device which can be held in the hand, it can detect any smell, pleasant or unpleasant, long before the sharpest human nose. It can record the moisture content of different objects and the minutes changes in atmospheric humidity, but it cannot distinguish rose scene from ammonia. The invention, known as a hygrometer, consists partly of a miniature condenser in the form of a fine wire probe /. This can be inserted into materials or articles of food and a skilled user can in this way tell the condition of meet of fish
