Daniel Cohn-Bendit

The student leader Daniel Cohn-Bendit spoke to the students during the blockade of Frankfurt University on 24 May 1968. Cohn-Bendit was born in 1945 in Montauban in southwest France as the son of a German Jewish lawyer who emigrated from Berlin in 1933 after the National Socialists seized power. In 1958 he moved together with his mother to his father, who had meanwhile returned to Germany. After graduating from high school in 1965, he began studying sociology at the Nanterre University in Paris. As a student leader significantly involved in the 1968 May riots, the French government expelled the German citizen of the country.
