DESTROYED SERBIAN TV BUILDING NOVI SAD, 1999-05-04 (photo)

Televison crews film behind a sculpture depicting a Nazi soldier placed outside a Serbian TV building destroyed in last night's NATO air raids in the northern Serbian town of Novi Sad May 4. It is not known who placed the sculpture outside the building. NATO warplanes hit a television station and oil refinery in Yugoslavia's second city Novi Sad overnight, continuing their relentless pounding of this once-graceful city now divided by the river Danube with no bridges to cross it. A steel transmitter next to the building stubbornly remained standing, though it had clearly taken some hits. PEK/JDP
