FIRST NEW MILLENNIUM HOLE-IN-ONE GOLFERS ERECT NUMBER ONE SIGN ON GREEN IN TONGA, 2000-01-01 (photo)

Elina Maka (L) watches fellow golfer David Kongaika (R) erect a sign on the seventh green signifying their achievements at being the first golfers in the world to have made a hole-in-one in the new millennium during an official tournament at the world's most easterly golf course called the Tongan Golf Club in the capital Nuku'alofa January 1. The pair were playing in the final day of the Y2K Millennium tournament when Kongaika aced the par-three seventh hole at around 8.30AM local time, followed by Maka shortly after at the same hole at around 10.30AM. The golf course can also boast that it achieved the very first golf shot, the very first game, and the first official tournament of the new millennium. DG/PB
