Image description

Martin King III, son of slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. and current president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) speaks at a news conference at the Georgia state capitol on January 24, 2001 regarding the SCLC's proposed boycott if the current Georgia flag is not changed. A new flag has been proposed and passed by the Georgia House of Representatives and King responded "it might be something we have to live with" regarding the flag which has the Georgia State seal along with the words "Georgia History" over a gold ribbon with the five flags that have flown in Georgia, including the current flag that has the confederate emblem. The bill passed in the Georgia House of Representatives 94-82 but still must pass in the Georgia senate. TC/HB
