Mullard cathode ray tube development : two engineers in Comparitor rooms. Advances in broadcast television like the 1953 Coronation outside broadcast ,seen by millions of viewers, led to a rapid expansion of television receiver ownership. This grew from 20,000 in the early 1950s to several million by the end of the decade. The Mullard company dedicated a whole plant at Simonstone near Burnley to deal with the growing demand for cathode ray tubes. This 1959 was taken at the Mullard¿s research unit at Bridgend .
