Nathaniel Bentley, the well-known Dirty Dick, 1735-1809. Owner of a hardware shop on Leadenhall Street who later became a miser and hoarder famous for his filthiness. Kept a room full of sumptuous entertainment locked up for many years after the death of his fiancee (like Miss Havisham in Charles Dickens). Lithograph after a stipple engraving by R.
