OFFICIALS OF SANTIAGOS NATIONAL LIBRARY INSPECTS DECLASSIFIED CIA DOCUMENTS, 2000-06-30 (photo)

Gonzalo Catalan (L) and Jose Apablaza, officials of Santiago's National Library, inspect documents classified by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency and the U.S. Defense Department in Santiago, June 30. The files, which include information about the killings of U.S. citizens Charles Horman and Frank Peruggi following the coup d'etat in Chile in 1973, were released to the public at the same time in the U.S and Chile. Both governments are studying together the possibilities of opening up alternative ways to investigate the killings of Horman and Peruggi. Due to a Chilean amnesty law, it has been impossible to get access to further information about the killings. MT/CM/JP
