SOUTH AFRICAN JOURNALIST PROTESTS IN FRONT OF THE LIBERIAN EMBASSY IN PRETORIA, 2000-08-25 (photo)

A South African journalist protests in front of the Liberian Embassy in Pretoria, August 25, 2000, for the release of compatriot television cameraman Gugu Radebe, who along with four of his colleauges, were arrested last week on spy charges. About 50 journalists and media workers held the protest to urge the Liberian authorities to release the newsmen Radebe, Sorious Samura, Timothy Lambon and David Barrie. They were arrested while they were working on a television documentary for a British television station. Former South African President Nelson Mandela is among key international figures who have urged for the release of the journalists. JN/JRE
