Tragedy on the Imalaia (colour litho)

Tragedy on the Imalaia. After climbing the unclimbed peak of Mount Api (7200 m) two Italian mountaineers of the Ghiglione expedition, Eng. Giuseppe Barenghi and Professor Giorgio Rosenkrantz perished, victims of a storm. The first was lost in the blizzard, the second froze out in a crevasse where he had sought shelter. The news was brought by an indigenous guide who had accompanied them on the climb and who then witnessed the end of the Rosenkrantz. A third member of the expedition, Dr. Roberto Bignami, had died falling into a stream. Illustration for Courier Sunday, 11 July 1954.
