VibhÄ«á¹£aá¹‡a says that his brother Kumbhakará¹‡a was such a scourge of the earth that BrahmÄ cursed him to be perpetually asleep, but that, on appeal from Rāvaṇa, BrahmÄ agreed that after six months of sleep he could be awake for one day. Lakṣmaṇa has managed to cure himself by recollecting that he is in part Viá¹£á¹‡u and is now up and about.
