The Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV) is a spacecraft project currently being developed by Lockheed Martin for NASA. Based on specifications and tests already performed for the Orion spacecraft. It was announced by NASA on 24 May 2011. The next generation Deep Space Vehicle (DSV) may be flying within the next decade. Like the Apollo Command/Service Modules which last flew in 1973, the DSV will be a crewed spacecraft capable of independently navigating beyond Earth orbit to the Moon and beyond
