Great George's Street, Douglas, Isle of Man, 1932-34 (b/w photo)

On the back of this photograph John James Frowde writes, "Great George's St., and Adelphi, which bulks largely in H. B. Laughton's Reminiscences. Great George's St. Great Nelson St. is from foot of Prospect Hill to Drumgold St. The Adelphi Hotel, about 1840 was the 'King's Arms', kept by Peter Crelley on the list of licensed houses given in Brown's 1880 Directory. I think there was a Crelley in the 'York' on the Parade. See notes fron Jefferson's and other almanacs 1792 to 1848. Peter C was in the King's Arms, Church St in 1838, soon after it was the Adelphi."
