The war diary of the Sharpshooters records heavy fighting around the Primosole Bridge over the Simeto RIver in July 1943. During Operation FUSTIAN Allied airborne troops attempted to capture the bridge and 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) were involved in the supporting ground attack. Here a baled out tank crew seek shade and cover. The war diary for 17 July 1943 records the ‘FDL’ being mortared, sniped at and machine-gunned.
