Bailleul after the fighting, 1918. Photograph, World War One, Western Front (1914-1918), 1918. Situated north east of Amiens, Bailleul was temporarily occupied by the Germans in October 1914. It eventually became a rearguard base for the British Army fighting in Flanders. However, on 15 April 1918 the Germans re-captured the town during their Spring Offensive. For around three months, until its final liberation in August 1918, the town was heavily shelled by the Allies. One of 193 British and Allied official photographs.
