For years Anya Bierzynski has tried to quit smoking. "Smoking is a disgusting habit, it's dirty, it's filthy, but I'm just addicted," the student and part-time waitress said, looking moodily at the burning cigarette in her fingers. But she is still annoyed at an anti-smoking law in Canada's largest city that went into effect last Friday. "It's certainly not nice to smokers. I don't want to be dictated to quit." Toronto restaurants now require patrons to butt out unless they have a separate, confined smoking room, but bars and other more adult-oriented places get a reprieve until 2004. AC/JP
