Image description

Wesley Mark Todd, therapeutic Area clinical Director for Antibacterials of the U.S. company Pharmacia & Upjohn presents new data from a clinical test of Zyvox (TM) (linezolid), the first of a new class of antibiotics, suggesting that the compound is active against gram-positive bacteria, including those resistant to other antibiotics during a news conference in Berlin March 23. The study was presented during a symposium held at the ninth European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ECCMID). The data suggests that Zyvox may hold promise in the treatment of skin and soft tissue infections and community-acquired pneumonia caused by gram-positive organisms. Zyvox, being developed by Pharmacia & Upjohn, comes from the oxazolidinone class, the first new class of antibiotics in more than 30 years. FAB/JDP
