Tue 02, 1953 - Crowd In West End See Woman Rescued 50Ft. Up... Crowds help up traffic in the West End of London this afternoon as they watched police and firemen trying to rescue middle aged woman perched perilously on the ledge of the Regent Palace Hotel 50 ft. above Glasshouse Street. People in the street first saw the woman and called the police while the staff at the hotel phoned for reinforcements. When more police arrived some went no to the woman's room with hotel maintenance men and forced the door. Firemen started to put up an escape ladder as two police officers appeared at rooms on either side of the woman and tried to pull her back. Then it appeared to watchers below, that just before the escape was rigged, some one in the room held the woman and helped her back to safety. She was later taken by ambulance to Charing Gross Hospital. The woman aged 53, is believed to be a tourist who arrived at the hotel from Malaya on Saturday
