W.P. Malkanti (34 years old) receives treatment for injuries inflicted by the massive tsunami in Matara General Hospital in Southern Sri Lanka. Her two daughters were also severely injured and currently undergoing surgical in surgical ward for children. Malkanti and her husband, along with their three daughters were waiting at Matara Bus Terminal for a bus, only meters from the sea, to go to their home village for the new-year holidays, when first wave came. Her daughter Nadisa narrated the story, My father said dont worry. It is just little water. It will go away. He took my younger sister in his arms and went outside the terminal to see. Soon after even bigger wave of water came and took my father and sister away. When tsunami struck, many were trapped at the Matara Bus Terminal and died when furniture, luggage and even big busses were tossed around by water. Nadisha, Dilina and their mother Malkanti were found in three different places and were eventually taken to the hospital for their injuries. Over two week now, they are still in the hospital receiving treatment. Nadishas sister and father died. Surgical ward, Matara General Hospital. Southern Sri Lanka. (photo)
